Community Tasting Notes (110) Avg Score: 90.9 points

  • -- decanted immediately before initial taste --
    -- tasted non-blind over a couple hours --
    -- 83% Syrah, 9% Mourvedre, 8% Bobal --

NOSE: cigar wrapper up front, with a brooding black cherry Twizzler note laying underneath; smells "big" and, generally, dark-fruited.

BODY: medium-full bodied; dark violet color of great depth; cork stained dark purple.

TASTE: tannic; cigar wrapper; oaky; medium-low to medium acidity; ripe, big, but not ridiculous-big; somewhat tertiary --- some pleasant wood-aged tawniness to it; a bit of heat (labelled at 14% alc.); paired very well with steak and caramelized onions; drink now and over the next handful of years --- I highly doubt 10+ additional years is a good idea. Gut impression score: 90.

  • Good balance and beautiful! Should drink well for another couple of years. Enjoy.

  • This has certainly held up, though I'm not sure if it's any better than a few years back. It has developed a good bit of bottle boquet...the expressive nose was the most alluring part of the wine. Relatively big on the palate despite the years, the tannins are still there in the background, but largely resolved. enough structure to make if pleasant. Somewhat savory, but it seems to have more of a warm than cold climate flavor profile. 90-91 ish

  • Pretty aromatics, great attack... then mid palate drops off quickly and finishes little fruit and some bitter tannins.

  • Color: bright ruby
    Nose: earth, plum
Taste: musty plum, mushroom, anise, pencil lead
This is simple, but very enjoyable. A bit of a finish that evaporates quickly. No real tannins but I think this has a few years left.
